Madeira Embroidery

It is estimated that the Embroidery of Madeira began to be produced after the discovery of the Island of Madeira, in the 15th century. Initially it was produced by noblewomen for decoration of home textiles and clothing, and its themes were influenced by the monastic work. Nowadays it represents the cultural wealth of the region.
