Heart of Viana

Filigree is the art of working metal to create very elaborate decorative pieces. With the Portuguese discoveries were brought many precious metals from the colonies that led to the appearance of artisan work filigree. Heart of Viana is, par excellence, the Portuguese Filigrana piece with more prominence and importance in the national culture and art. This symbol appeared with the cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the end of the 18th century. The cornucopias present in the Heart of Viana are a reinterpretation of the flames that spring from this Christian symbol.
